Years ago when I taught MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) courses, we drilled a mental conditioning sequence into the instructees known as SIPDE. Scan - Identify - Predict - Decide - Execute, this process should be continuous as you ride and incorporates checking your 360 degree spacing, speed, gauges, weather, types of vehicles around you (to predict behavior), and establish "out lanes" for emergencies. It, when done properly, will completely occupy your brain and therefore leave no ability to talk on the cell phone, have deep discussions with spouse, or even listen to the radio. It is a Zen-like state of alertness. Does it work? I've ridden for 40 years and have not yet ever crashed a street bike. I would highly recommend this same process for anyone driving an RV of any kind. If not for your own safety, for those around you that you will likely kill in an accident! It is easy to think you're competent when self taught and seemingly proficient, but I proved many a seriously seasoned biker that they were missing some very basic skills having been their own instructor. Sort of like that old saying " A person who acts as their own lawyer has a fool for a client." The really neat thing about expert, defensive driving is that everyone wins. The really pathetic thing about trying to have the "safest" vehicle in an accident is that it is usually at the expense of the person you hit!! I agree entirely. Part of pilot training is to "keep the neck on a swivel" - it's a bit more demanding in 3 dimensions. Motorhomes, like all vehicles, operate in 2 dimensions, 360°. Danger can arise from any direction, but obviously mostly from the direction of travel. I travel with the radio and cell phone off, at 55-60 mph. Even my somewhat agile Breakaway needs time to brake or change course. Vigilance is rewarded only if there's time to analyze and react to situations. EVERYONE needs to look at this....I've see a lot of accidents and I couldn't really distinguish the motorhome except for miscellaneous pieces here and there. Also, ALWAYS pray over your vehicle for safety and protection. Over the years, my family has been involved in 2 MAJOR accidents that people should have been killed in but only because God was watching over us, no one died. That's another story....

Inattentive driving! That dude had to be traveling pretty fast to do that kind of damage. ...at least Fire/Rescue didn't have to break-out the cutting tools to extricate anyone. The job was already done for them. Roll-overs are just as bad ...been on a few where everything was crushed, flew-apart and strewn all over the road with no survivors. ~Mac~ 1990 31 Foot Regency Spartan Chassis Cummins 6CTA8.3 Alison MT643, 4-speed 8905-0123-31RDS-A2
