I live in Ormond Beach, beachside, in the path of Fay... Getting a few bands coming thru with a steady 25k breeze. I have the Barth parked under the house and it is protected but still exposed to some wind. I plan to do a complete wash/ cleaning as soon as this is over as the salt spray can take a toll....
Hopefully we won't have to crank up the Generator on the Barth.

Ray:

Fay went over us here in Florida yesterday. Gusts to 60 but averaged in the mid 30's. We are parked in Ortona Fl. on the Caloosahatchee River near Moorehaven. Lots of rain with this one. We got about 8".

Stay dry.

ED.

Deb & Ed, glad to hear you made it through OK. I figured you were pretty well center stage for this one. We had a fine day yesterday, hardly a drop of rain and mid 70's with clouds and a breeze. Worked out in the yard most of the day. Today is switching from sunshine to torrential rain every 5 minutes. Just called the golf course to see if the 4pm league is on and they said yes. I'll bring the bumbershoot. I don't think Ray will be smackin the little white orb this afternoon over in Ormand. Haven't heard from our Okeechobee friends yet. They had a house to go to if it looked bad, so at least they were safer than staying in their doublewide. Anyway, the Fat Lady ain't singing yet!

The center of the track prediction takes it about 30 miles south of my house. I backfit my house for 120mph winds, so excess rain can be a problem. Frances and Jeanne brought the river up near the house, but it takes >10" in 24 hours to do that - and the river's very low right now.

Topped off StaRV II's water tank; in case I lose power, that's the only place to get a hot shower - the emergency generator's only hooked up to part of the house.

Not much is happening...Fay is just sitting there grinding away on the mid east coast.

Here I am with battened hatches, awaiting: Nothing?

Trivia: When I was released from active (Navy) duty the first time, the CO and XO of my ship were: Charles Batten and Philip Hatch. Batten & Hatch...how nautical could one get?

NWS predicted Fay to go west at 5 mph. In the last hour, it's gone SE...

Getting light to moderate rain (20 minutes of heavy this morning). The river's still below normal - the watershed hasn't picked up much rain at all. Strongest wind gust maybe 35 mph.

Fay becoming fey? The central structure (based on NWS radar in this area) has begun to break down. I expected a bit more rain and wind, but not so (up to now). StaRV II still reposes in its lair; I don't move it up the driveway unless water appears in the woods alongside.

1:15AM Update. - now the core looks like it'll pass over my house. The only thing I concern myself with is the possibility of the river intruding, and that looks unlikely - nowhere near enough rain even to make me move the vehicles to higher ground (I have a curve in the driveway that generally floods first).

On the plus side, for the first time in weeks, I have the windows open, airing out the house...a great benefit, considering the current fragrance of Wet Dog that's resident...Big Grin

ROTFLMAO It just goes to prove: First liar doesn't stand a chance, even if it's the truth.

There was, long ago, an Army officer named General R. Pearson. He got promoted from CAPT to MAJ, but the report cited him picking up his second star: Major General R. Pearson...

We anxiously await news from Rusty concerning this mornings weather. I believe it's safe to say that he's experiencing inclement conditions.

Update
We were in the eye of the storm for much of yesterday. Winds were calm, and a little blue sky but today we are getting the backside of Fay, with a ton of rain and some wind....

I got very little nasty weather; I did move StaRV II up the driveway to higher ground - the river's still in its banks, but now I don't have to worry about Casey waking me in the middle of the night to report flooding. A couple of years ago, he started barking at 3 AM, and wouldn't quit, so I got up, got the searchlight, and turned him loose. He ran down to the coach - where the water was just getting onto the pad...

Folks on the east coast really got banged, and a few dozen blocks of Jacksonville have been flooded.
