GeraldOr Afghanastan, Iraq,Libya etc. The Pentagon has got some great stuff.. I was thinking more in the line of say.. mass transit issues, more efficient individual transportation, heating etc.

DougZI seriously doubt that Americans will give up their love affair with the automoble / truck no matter how cool the mass transportation vehicle is.

Roger in SeattleI don't think it's a matter of giving up our love affair with the automobile, but rather having choices for at least some of the trips we make each day. Commuting to work in a single-occupant vehicle, for an hour or more each day, with traffic varying from bad to barely moving -- that's a Hell I would not endure. Let me ride a bus or train where I can snooze or read the morning paper, and save on my gas bill (not to mention insurance and maintenance costs). Oh, and parking -- in downtown Seattle, it's $200/month and up.
Forget the fantasy that started this thread -- what commute corridor in the world could possibly accommodate a rubber-tired "bus" going 150 mph???

GeraldI don't think we will either... nor should we have to. In South Dakota we are to sparsely populated for mass transit to be a factor. In some metro areas that may be different. I'm just waiting for the youtube video with the 200mph+ 12sec 1/4 mi 100mpg crash-proof American made car/truck! Oh ...under $10,000
