i just wanted to say hello to all the peeps in here. i've been lurking in here along the walls ,reading and learning all about the barth coach. i have been homebound pretty much the last 2 1/2 yrs cuz of an industrial accident at work.. i finally decided to make a move out and about and look for a used rv to help me along..i was kinda disapointed in them fiberglass homes, cuz the looked kinda cheap and i always saw some patchwork on even a newer model. i finally laid eyes on a barth and immediately was drawn to that model. mind u, i have no rv experience whatso ever..well i looked at a couple, and even tho the ones' i turned down still interested me,i finally landed one, a 1991 breakaway diesel pusher. needs alittle loving, but i am willing to tackle it. it made it across the country thru the desert of a constant 104 and over the rockies and finally threw a belt in iowa. i never worked on a diesel. but i found my self lucky in that the belt from the a/c compressor disintegrated, it took out a hot wire from a selonoid the previous owner rigged to the fuel pump (?) and back to the block of the wire harness..well we got more wire from the cb store we had slept behind, and just rigged it to bypass the selonoid, crossed our fingers and walla! we got fuel pressure!!.so onward we went..we were without the dash a/c, but ran the roof a/c's. thank goodness it was a barth!! this made it cross country from northern cali to eastern pa. im impressed!..so going back to say hello, i wanted to say what a great site this is, im hooked!..i hope to meet alot of u folks out there and start my own barth history..i hope all u folks can understand my ramblins cuz im on some strong meds yet.but i think this is a great place, and i hope u dont mind if i bend a few ears cuz im green at this.thanks for some great readings..i learned alot from this site..again ,hope to meet you all...rick | ||

Welcome to the asylum, er, "Forum". One nice thing about a Barth is that many pre-owned units will require some work, as would a used unit regardless of manufacturer. The charm of a Barth is that it won't fall apart faster than you can fix it. Plastic Pigs can hide problems from you for years, then hit you with a $15K bill for repair. A Barth tends to be more upfront. Now, I'm not a Real Expert on motorhomes, having owned before my 28' Breakaway only one, and a pathetic travel trailer, but I have no patience for crap. Fortunately, Barths, fortunately, aren't crap, and the efforts in restoring one to its original glory won't disclose that the coach is defeating those efforts by rotting as you work on it.
