Man I gota rusty dipstick.

Just checked the oil and the dipstick is covered in rust. I scrapped it off and put a little rustoleum on it. Any place to get a replacement.

I would be very concerned about why rust was forming. That just doesn't sound right. I looked at the dipstick in my 19 year old F-250 and it is spotless. Something is amiss inside the engine.

Sounds like condensation in the dipstick tube... That long tube may not heat up and dry out unless the engine is run for an extended time. I'm guessing it's been sitting for a while. Hopefully there is minimal water in the oil...

I'm surprised the oil drained down so completely and left no corrosion inhibitors behind. This what I worry about in my airplane when it sits very long.

Have you had a chance to look under the valve covers? A quick peep will tell volumes about oil changes and operating temps. Any mayonnaise on the oil filler cap?

The tube is over 4' long. Thinking about putting a regular dipstick on the motor. Just have to open the dog house to read oil level.

Moisture is absorbed by motor oil; when the engine heats up, the moisture is driven off. Some gets into the dipstick tube, which operates as a small cooling tower. It condenses and forms rust.

Clean it off; it's normally not a sign of something dire. Milky motor oil IS a bad sign.
