Is 30' the max size motorhome that state and national parks will accept? What other size limitations exist?

Each state is different, and it can vary from park to park, too. You need to check state regulations, and the rules of each national park. Commercial campground guides (Woodall's, Trailer life, Camping World, etc.) are good sources of info. for all of them. [This message has been edited by olroy (edited January 25, 2006).]

It is worth the trouble to looks up and utilize various state campground reservation websites. Some of them are extraordinarily informative. I think Minnesota's not only tells you the size and accomidation of the rvsite but even shows you a picture of it. Canada's reservation website for their campgrounds do the same. ------------------

30 feet is the most often quoted limit, but some are as low as 24 feet, although shorter length limits are more often a factor of turning ability then site length. Our choice is thirty feet, but as others stated, you need to survey your potential campgrounds before making a decision. And, the length thing is often dependant on the particular employee at the gate that day, and whether she is having a bad hair day or whether he can find the tape measure or not. Some places have stripes painted to calibrate your length, but sometimes the employee will not feel like getting out of the shack and let you in with a longer coach. Lots of over length coaches get in quite often. And at many campgrounds, they fit in the sites OK. I have found the college kids they hire during the summer to be less oficious about length than the full time employees, but it is really all over the map. Our own 30 footer often has problems because it is a tag axle, and hits the bumper before we are fully back in a 30 foot site.
