OK folks, I will be leaving Wednesday for a trip from Memphis to Rutherfordton, NC. Can't make up my mind about who to get my roadside assistance from. Help me out with suggestions. 66 year old female traveling alone except with Yorkie. I've had Good Sam's for several years. I used them once when more tire blew on my old SOB that I had spares for. Very good. I have had both Good Sams and Coachnet. On a Friday, just before an (unplanned) trip, I tried to renew over the phone with my credit card. They said they couldn't renew until Tuesday. (holiday weekend) I called Coachnet, and they were as gracious and helpful as could be. I have no on-the-road experience with either, as I carry baling wire, piggin' strings and whang leather. However, word from my friends is that Coachnet is a class operation. For other opinions, you might try a SEARCH of this forum. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

Had to use coachnet twice in one week. Once for the bus and once for the jeep. no problems with them.....and no hassles from them about having two breakdowns in such a short time either. Drawback to anything connected to Good Sam is you will get all kinds of mail offers from them....ie, a LOT of junk mail.

Mary Ray! Through my years of driving GM vehicles of this vintage with the HEI module, I've had a few breakdowns due to that component. I'd think carrying a spare would ensure you didn't need it. That's good MOJO! Elsewhere in this discussion board, someone has noted the good brands to consider. Which reminds me, I have had two HEI coils fail on our Barth. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered

Mary Ray, what insurance company do you have on your Barth? Does it include any roadside policy? That might be a cheaper option to go, rather than signing up for an independent service. Although some people don't like the idea of an insurance "claim" whenever they need to use the service. I don't know if that is actually the case or not. I (as well as many other motorhome owners that I know of) have Progressive insurance for my RV policy, whose prices beat every other RV carrier I received quotes from. Progressive's roadside add-on is very low priced and has NO towing mileage or monetary limits stated. I verified this with their Customer Service before I bought the policy. Just an idea of something else to look at.

My insurance carrier is State Farm, and it does have tow insurance for both motorhomes and the travel trailer. But I have solved this problem and am going to take the truck because of the mountains on the route (Rutherfordton, NC). Thank you all for the info, and will let you know about the trip when I get back even though I am not going in the Barth. I'm a recovering insurance agent. Towing and Labor, if used, will count as a claim. This is why a separate motor club is recommended, especially one that can deal with the special needs of motorhomes.
