I've been lurking around here for awhile. I pulled the trigger on an 88 Regal 22. Trouble is, on the drive home it started on fire. Most of the damage is engine wiring, hoses, ect. Bummer. Any way it looks repairable, and insurance is taking its time. So I cant take it to the beach with my granddaughter, yet. I've seen a wealth of info here so I'll be lurking more. Looking for more Left Coasters.

Hi Rex,

I'm in San Leandro, in Northern CA. I have a 28 ft 89 Regal.

Fire! Have you determined the cause?

Welcome to the site!

I can't find the cause but the damage is limited to engine area. Wiring harness is toast, all the rubber, plastic, solenoids, alternator need replacing. If insurance hasn't picked it up by next weekend, I'll wire the engine so it'll start to see if damaged. Don't think it is, but we'll see. Got the fire out pretty fast. Will be disappointed if insurance totals it. Shorties are hard to find.
But from now on, when I buy a fire extinguisher, I will check to see if it has been recalled. Bought 2 brand new ones before picking it up. 1 worked, 1 didn't, poor design

Hey Quinn,
So how do you like it. Only one person I've talked to around me ever even heard of a Barth.

I absolutely LOVE it! I enjoy having something that is unique, classic and also pretty darn cool.

The glowing door handle is worth the price of admission, after all!

I was going to make this the machine upon which I would learn all kinds of mechanical magic, tinkering away and posting all the wonderful things I've done a la Steve VW.

Alas, I'm sending it to the shop a lot. Work and kids seem to leave me no tinkering time. I replaced the storage bay locks and that's about it.

BTW, any other Western folks out there? I'm very sad to pass up the GTG's, but with them all at least a 3 or 4 day drive, they're just not practical for my family. I'd love to do a West (doesn't have to be coast) GTG.

So it's running and driveable again. I have the engine wired separate from the coach right now. I have to figure out the 12 volt to 110 electrical but it's getting there.

Hi,

Quinn, my husband Kelly and I are in Auburn, CA. and I would also love to have a West coast GTG. I had mentioned it previously in relation is us going to the So. Cal desert area and then on to AZ. We are retired so we are pretty flexible with our time. Headed south in the middle of December, in AZ. middle of Jan. and February.

Our Barth is also spending time in the shop as we are handy but, not that handy. Currently gas tank is out due to sludge at the bottom of tank, hopefully that is what is causing the engine to not get any fuel. The glass fuel filter was full of junk.

Would love to meet up with some other Barth folks, we will eventually make it back to the eastern area but not in the near future. I know there are a few other Westerns around, hopefully we can spark some interest for a GTG.

One of the reasons we bought the 98 Barth was to make some long runs to the southwest, Alaska, etc. I am looking forward to meeting some of our west coast Barth owners. Tooling Along

Hope to see you soon.

Hi Sheila and Kelly
We will be in Arizona around the same time, hopefully we will cross paths. We have a 94 Barth Breakaway. Currently we are held up on Vancouver Island waiting for rear break drums coming from eastern Canada. We were suppose to have left for California/Arizona a couple of weeks ago.
Happy Travels

I hope we can meet up in AZ. I am going to try and post where we are or where we're headed so hopefully we can get a few Barths together. Our current plan is to leave around the middle of December and head to Indio and then Borrego Springs, CA. Will be heading to AZ. around the 4th of January.

Depending on where and when of rally. I have tried twice in years past to get one organized to no avail.

I like the idea of a western GTG, also.

John & Lynne, I was just up there last week for a few days winter camping. Maybe next time I'll try to meet with you.
