No, I didn't decide against the Regency. I was just seeing if the Denver Monarch's price had any wiggle room... No response from email or voicemail, so I guess they're either away or I've insulted them with my trial balloon offer. Oh well! The Regency is in the lead at this point. The seats will work for my wife's back and it has thermo windows. The furnace probably could be changed back to an oil burner and thereby free up the storage space taken up by the propane bottles. It would be hard to sort out fuel mileage that way though with heat and engine running of the same tank. I'm not too excited about 9 mpg though. I can get 50% more fule mileage with a GMC truck and a 30' fiver. Best, Bill |

| 50% more mileage with a GMC & a 30' fiver? Either a joke or too many funny cigarettes.
I've seen oil furnaces for marine installations, but you better price them out, they ain't cheap, and the marine units I've seen don't look rugged enough to handle rough roads. Perhaps there are some made for upscale RVs today, but I'm not aware of them. |

| Okay, okay....
I'll admit is an estimate but I think 13.5 mph assuming a small Glendale Titanium fiver and a GMC Duramax/Allison is entirely do-able. No, it's not a Barth. I just wish I knew how to squeeze a bit more mileage out of the Barth Regency.
Mr. Hoyle seems like a very honest man and I'm sure his mileage figures are real life; while mine, on the other hand, are estimated. (Wild Turkey maybe but now weed...) ;-)
Oh well, tomorrow is decision day. Sure wish I'd hear from the owners of the blue Monarch in Denver, NC.

| I must say that's a pretty sweet looking Monarch - I'm assuming it has a six speed in it too. Not bad. |

Thanks so much! I do appreciate the help. I've tried email and phone. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. Bill |

| Thanks, I got the numbers directly (kind of) and we're going to try to see it on the way to or from FL later this month along with the Regency in Shelby. Still wish the fuel mileage were better..... Maybe the 6 speed in the Monarchs will improve that.

My '96 -Custom Monarch - 38', CTA8.3 Cummins/Spartan and 6-speed Allison gets 7 to 8-1/2 mpg on the interstates towing a 6,000lb SUV (70mph); 7mpg on Wyoming state hwys. 9mpg sounds good to me. My (unsought) opinion: Fuel consumption should not be a factor. ------------------ "You are what you drive" - Clint Eastwood |

| I've got to agree. I ran the numbers based on our useage with the options being a Barth with a Honda tow'd and a Ford truck towing a small fiver. Assuming the Ford and the Honda would be daily drivers, the dollars come out 2% in favor of the Barth.
I'm over thinking this....

| I always tell the same story which has been repeated for us a number of time in a number of different places. We were coming back through northern Wisconsin following the Chippewa River. It had gone kind of cool and it was a little breezy. We got to the bluffs area around Hayward I think where big rock out-cropping jutt up from the river. We saw a small area to stop right on the river. We stopped, flipped on the generator just long enough to cook a couple cans of Progresso clam chowder, watch the huge birds, (hawks of some kind, I guess). Then we took a nap for an hour and went on our way. Now I know you could do this with a fiver, but I'm am guessing it would be a little more difficult. By the way when I told this story on the website several years ago, this is were Eric Herrle from Maine chimes in with,,"Chowder?, Chowder?, that ain't no stinking clam chowder!!" Eric I will take you up on your offer someday and come up and get some of the REAL stuff.. ------------------ |
