Suzy amd I are going to Oscar Scherer for the Labor Day weekend. It's only about 9 miles north of us but we've never been. Everyone says it's really nice, and with the cost of gas, it's still a cheap date. The park is about 8 miles north of Venice on 41, with easy access from 75. Hope to see Don and Linda or any other Barth friends there.

Just returned from the weekend at Oscar Scherer State Park, just North of Venice, Fl. or about 65 miles south of Tampa. Although it's a very nice little park and just miles from home, I wouldn't put it on a "must stay at" basis for out of towners. There are canoes for rent but you can cover all available water in an hour or so, unless you went out into the intercoastal waterway. Red tide made that excursion out of the question. Most sites are for tents and smaller campers, with a few drive-throughs large enough to handle anything, but the twisty roads through the campgrounds would make it tricky for anything over 40 feet. There is no camp store or even souveneers in the ranger station, but the entrance is right on SR41 and stores are right there, but you'd need a toad if you don't want to break camp to go for groceries. Not a great park, but one we'll return to simply because it's so convenient for us.
