when I did an ebay motors search for BARTH, beside the Monarch I see a list of several Barth brochures from the '70's.
As for the very late Barth Monarch, were they built using foam core sandwich walls rather than the riveted all-aluminum earlier construction?

Mogan,
That's my old Monarch and it is built just like every other Barth with buck riveted aluminum construction. The front cap is fiberglass riveted to the aluminum and steel framing. The insulation is a foam board as I recall.

On cabinet guy's listing

Who is cabinet guy?

The Monarch is a steal at that price. Heck, You couldn't buy a basic diesel truck for that money. Shows you the state of values of large items these days. I can only stomach it because I picked up an equal deal on my Wanderlodge. Now is the time to upgrade I think.

I almost believe maybe it is fiberglass. It looks a lot different than my Monarch. Perhaps Barth attempted a few glass jobs in the gassers, don't know.

...and that dealer gave $75k in trade for the rig not THAT long ago?! I can't believe they would take that kind of loss. You know what they say about a deal that's too good to be true.

There's nothing too good to be true about it. Trade in values and asking prices on used vehicles are pretty much baseless.

I know that my Wanderlodge was a one owner unit that was repossessed after 10 years of ownership and 42,000 miles. It was then auctioned by the lien holder and bought by Day's RV. So I'm sure they bought it very right and they were able to pass that on to me while making a profit.

The real loser was the lien holder who likely was owed $100 to $200K more that they got at auction. We will probably never know the particulars, but this Wanderlodge had a retail of $740K before options in 2000 when it was new. It sold in 2001 and it is common for people to finance these type of RVs for 20 to 30 years.

So the $75K I got on paper was always an arbitrary number, but it was against a realistic asking price of $170K for a very low mileage unit. At least according to my shopping around for the past 6 months for this kind of unit.

There is a value sometimes in these high dollar machines to deal with a dealership simply due to their tendency to own their inventory "right". Just look at the back of RV magazine for sale by owner ads and you will see they are often through the roof. In fact, there is another 2000 Wanderlodge LXi Millenium Edition (the top of the line in 2000) for sale by owner right now with 97K miles, they want $248K for it! http://www.buybyebluebird.com/print.php?id=42

A great deal in RVs is finding one that has been well cared for and I hit the jackpot I think.

Considering the care (and $$$) lavished on it, Corey's Monarch at $31K was such a steal. I actually considered buying it, but StaRV II is just ideal for Casey, Nelson, and me.

Thanks Rusty, it would have taken some getting used to to not see you in StarRV II. It's almost like an extension of you.

Whoever got the Monarch should be a happy camper, but I learned a long time ago that owning a motorcoach is not for everyone. In fact, I need to talk my 80 year old parents out of owning another one about once a month. I love them, but they are inept at anything but screwing in light bulbs. Guess who they called when something was broken on the ones they used to own???

Looking at the photos it is nearly identical to my 1998. The bumpers are Chrome, mine fiberglass. Paint, windows, dash, inside almost identical, kitchen set up a little different. I have power stair cover, this has bath/shower I have shower. I have oak, this has cherry wood. I have 80,000 miles this has less.

If the pictures are accurate it is cleaner than my unit. I paid 50,000 two years ago for my unit. $31,000 is a great price for the buyer but bad from me......

I am happy with my rig so far it has done everything I was hoping for so no complaints.

The side walls are alum with rivets like my unit.
