It seems at one point it was used by Eagle Electric.

Wow, 263,000 miles! This could be the most used Barth in existence.

When I read this, it sounds like the engine is in the barth, but they will pull it out if you just want to tow it away..

I agree, they will sell it with or without the motor. The rebuilt 454 for $4,000 is steep, there are crate motors available for that kind of money. I'm sure this is a starting price and can be negotiated. A rebuilt motor with 10 miles is a much bigger risk that one with 1000 miles in MHO. I would really check it out to certify the engine was rebuilt to the highest standards (new stress components, magnaflux major components, micrometer measurements to insure new spec clearances, proper assembly lubes). It's also nice to know what failed on the original build engine (overheat, high mileage, metal fatigue).

I'm not saying this is the case, but I've seen "rebuilt motor" mean a gasket set and new bearings just bolted in! I once rebuilt a friends 455 Pontiac and the parts store gave me the wrong rings (didn't know about micrometers in those days and I built a hell of a mosquito fogger! Ouch!

Jeff, yes the rebuilt motor is in. But... it only runs for a minute or two, likely a fuel issue. Also, during the motor exchange process something happened to the electrical system and nothing works now, lights, horn, wipers, he hotwired the motor to start it while I was there.

Corey, I agree. The rebuild was by a local auto parts store. Without the motor would be the way to go. Rusty suggested the possibility of replacing the 454 with a diesel.

The jury is still out for us.

The bones are good. It has a 6.5 Onan, 2 roof a/c's, 1/2 bath, stove, sink, plenty of cabinets.

I think the inspection sticker was 2003, so it's been off the road for a while. It will need a motor, 8 new tires and some remodeling of the interior as it was a commercial unit.

We're on the fence, do we need/want another project... but we'd really like to save a Barth.

If it were me, I would make an offer without the motor, say $1300. I would then scan CL for an older GM with a good running big block. Do a weekend swap to just get it mobile with a known good motor. Make decisions on upgrades from there.

Again, if it were me in the old days I would tear it totally to pieces and then spend 10 years buying crap then selling it undone. My BAD!

I need to introduce you to my first wife so she can hear for herself that I really am not the only guy who was that way. She used to tell people that the only engine swap I had not attempted was our weedwhacker.

I am trying to be good.
