Actually it is probably an 8.2L 4 stroke V8. These engines were very sensitive to overheating. The later ones had larger head bolts and were less trouble but still needed very close attention. Before the Series 60 (and dismissing the wretched passenger car "diesels"), GM made 4 4-stroke engines: ToroFlow (Bought the company), 6.2L, 6.5L, and 8.2L. The 6.5L TD is still being made, AMG having bought the rights and reengineered it; it is now a robust and reliable engine (I have one).
