Does that look like a rather short wheelbase or is it just my imagination? Also, those look like 19.5" wheels to me.

This is a Spartan EC 2242 chassis with full air suspension. Spartan did not have the wheel base but an email to the owner has been sent. I looks like 172". As Sky pointed out, the wheels are 22.5. The transmission is an Allison MD3060.
Rusty, this looks like it belongs in your driveway. With the size of the basement compartments, you could put some really large star gazing stuff in there. If I were in the market, it would be tempting. Wonder what the reserve might be?

Heard from the owner. He said that the suspension is airbags(didn't say how many), the mileage was 47K, that the brakes were air over hydraulic, and he would get back to me on the wheelbase. Any thoughts out there?

It's kind of a "Monarchaway". I'd guess the engine is a C5.9L as the C8.3L of that era would be a minimum 250HP. It's certainly the shortest Monarch I've heard of.

Owner advises that it is 172" wheelbase, and Spartan data tag indicates a Cummins 5.9 @230HP. Rusty sure hit it on the head--a Monarchaway Cool. Still, with only 47000 miles on it, it must be tempting to somebody.

Data Tag 9409-3930-31ME-11B. Does that indicate a 31' length? Forgot how to read data tags.

Yep 9409, built Sep '94. Order number 3930. Length 31', M=Monarch. 11B is thought to be the interior layout code.

Back when I was in the Oil Bidness, we called an older, low-mileage car an "Aunt Nellie". Aunt Nellie drove the car to church and back 3 miles every week and to the store once weekly, 5 mile round trip. She had the oil changed every 3,000 miles, or about every five years. The crankcase looked like a tar pit...

What bothers me about this coach is the GVWR being 20,500 at 31 foot. My coach is 32 ft and GVWR is 29,640 and the weighs a little over 26,000 lbs empty. That gives me over 3,600 lbs to carry without being overweight. And I sure don't get no 11 miles to the gallon on mileage pulling my wrangler. I am with Kevin and Rusty on the mileage on the engine, would rather have more mileage on it.

This is a medium duty Spartan chassis. Note that the front axle weight rating is the same as most 28' and 30' Breakaways. The rear axle has been beefed up. Heck, the 28' Breakaway I just sold has a GVWR of 18000#. But it is definitely a Monarch.

Most 28' and 30' Breakaways have the Dana front and rear axles and GVWR of 18,000#

Interesting to note that my 30' Breakaway has the same axles as this one, air over hydraulic brakes, BUT has 19.5 tires. Mine has two tags, The Spartan tag is GVWR of 20,000# but the Barth tag has a GVWR of 18,000#.

Looks like the only limiting factor is the tires. Any heavier than mine I would prefer drum brakes!

If that Eaton rear axle is 4.1:1, with the 22.5 tires, it will not shift into 6 until over 70 MPH! It will also be MUCH slower accelerating from a stop.

Where do you find this stuff Click? You guys are good on the Internet. Barth must have changed the chassis for the Monarch in 1996 because when I gave Spartan the vin # for this one, they said it was a 2242 with air suspension. Think I might call them back and see if it's spring w/ air bags or a true air suspension.
