Now if he did that from under the vehicle he'd be a real Barth mechanic... Ok, it looks like an older British Ford engine (maybe 1600 Cortina type?) 3 main bearings, dual (Weber, Stromberg?) carbs, pushrod engine. Sure wish I had a "bonnet" that tips forward like that. So, experts, what car/engine is that? Triumph, Astin, hmm... 9708-M0037-37MM-01 "98" Monarch 37 Spartan MM, 6 spd Allison Cummins 8.3 325+ hp

I think the car (and engine) is a Triumph Spitfire... Right hand drive, British plate on the front, but with a US speedometer? Where the speedo is set into the dash, the wood is mucked up. Speedo has been switched.

The bonnet reminded me of Triumph, but the instruments were weird, like you said. I didn't recognize the logo on the gearshift knob either. Definitely not a modern engine. Look for smoke from the Lucas electrical system! 9708-M0037-37MM-01 "98" Monarch 37 Spartan MM, 6 spd Allison Cummins 8.3 325+ hp
