Rusty If you Can't Beat 'Em, Buy 'EmAlthough I've never been a fan of McAfee, they're certainly better than Symantec/Norton.
So, Intel will
buy McAfee. Security Essentials Plus, anyone?
As for me, I still motor along with System Mechanic, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Malware Bytes, and Avast! AV.

IMHO, if you want info on performers, use

I hate them all, and McAfee still owes me $60 on a rebate they never paid. Avast blows them all away and it's FREE!
Try calling one of these companies. I just had a massive go-round with EBay, you cannot...I repeat...cannot, talk to a human. They overcharged me blatantly and this Billion dollar company has no customer service line, no accounting department for consumers. When you finally get "delinquent" enough, they will offer you the ability to "chat" with someone. Probably so you can't tell they are from somewhere far, far away! This is WAY after they have shut down your account. For me it took 10 mins after I was gratuitously allowed the privilege to chat to get them to reverse the charges and get on with my business. I HATE these internet giants! They are EVIL
How long until they try to shut down or defame the freeware like Avast and AVG? Did they find a way to quietly halt Linux? They only place I see Red Hat these days is on the Continental airplane entertainment system software.
I'm telling you, these companies are EVIL....and ruthless! Well, they may have a Ruth or two, but you know what I'm saying

BonesIntel acquires McAfee for $7.68 billion
Makes me wonder when we will see some anti-virus system built into a processor. It's about the only reason I can see that Intel would spend that kinda scratch.

Moonbeam-ExpressThey already "infect" every new computer with their spam virus protection.
The first thing I do with every new computer is remove the Norton/Mcafee before it gets activated. Once activated, you can't remove it all!
Next, I go online and install the excellent - FREE - Avast. Never an issue with anything getting through. Avast up[dates daily and automatically.
