All of us at Team Pirate – Cap'n Slappy, Jezebel, Mad Sally and me, Ol' Chumbucket – wish you the best the holiday season has to offer, whatever holiday you mark. Whether it's Christmas, Kwanza, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice or any other holiday that's going on this month that I somehow missed.

In honor of those let me first give you a link to a a popular song of the season – altered to amuse the pirate population. It's "Pirate Plunderland." There are many versions of this out there, this is my favorite, taken from our freebooter folksinger friend Tug Bromberg and sung by me many moons ago at a book even in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The idea for International Talk Like a Pirate Day emerged in 1995 when friends John Baur (or 'Ol' Chumbucket') and Mark Summers (aka "Cap'n Slappy") conceived the event during a racquetball game.

They wanted to create a quirky day dedicated to the joys of pirate culture, and thus, the holiday was born. Now, each September 19, people worldwide are encouraged to speak like pirates.

The day fosters camaraderie as friends, family, and even strangers come together to share laughter, jokes, and activities that lighten the mood and provide a brief respite from life's stresses.
