When I first started with Barthmobile, the moniker was 'Humbo'. It changed to 'jimandtere' when Tere got interested. Just for giggles and ha ha's, I'll tell you about 'Humbo'.
72 years ago, I was climbing up a high dirt pile in my parent's back yard. A guy named Jim Hammerle was climbing up the other side. I was 4 and he was 5. Neither one of us knew what the other was doing. We met at the top and exchanged pleasantries as 4 and 5 year olds do. One thing led to another and he asked what my name was. "Jim" "What's your's?" "Jim". Well that wouldn't do so we moved onto middle names. His was Robert. OK. Mine was "Humbert" and with that, peals of laughter erupted. When he was over it, we decided that we had to come to some understanding. Two Jims wouldn't do for obvious reasons. And I didn't like 'Robert' or 'Bobby'. So for him we settled on 'Ham' (for Hammerle). Humbert wouldn't do either so he came up with Humbo--have no idea where. It stuck and to this day, we are Ham and Hum to everybody that remembers us from Edgeworth, PA. Tomorrow, I'm off to see my old friend Ham in Raleigh, NC. It's still Ham and Hum. We're thinking about a Thelma and Louise thing for the Grand Canyon.

Let's not rush into this. I suggest an open cockpit airplane! Stay above the rim or the locals will be hostile.

Some of my old friends call me McGuyver. (Flattering I guess, but I always point out that he's the actor, I'm the real thing!)

It is good to keep in touch with old friends. Enjoy the company while you can.

Childhood memories, they are the best. Glad you and Ham are still great friends. Loved the story Jim I mean Humbo! Have a great visit, you know that Thelma and Louise thing sounds like a lot of fun go for it.

When I was a kid I had a different name, my dad's name was Tom so I was called by my middle name Marten, which turned to Marty. Family and childhood friends know me as Marty. Everyone else called me Tom it's somewhat amusing to have two different names.

My nick also was convoluted; I was to have been "Malcolm Russell..." after my maternal grandfather and my father, respectively. But because there was no male descendant on the maternal side, I got the middle name changed, to "Malcolm Shermer...'

Because all the males on the maternal side are "Malcolm" in some combination, we all get nicknames. My proposed nick based on "Russell" stuck, even though the middle name didn't.

As a footnote, my cousin Malcolm Robert Shermer, due to his liking the beverage, is called "Coke". This was fine in the '50s and '60s, but not so much nowadays in his hometown of Miami...
