Anyone have any hints about tweaking a sagging front door on a Breakaway? Left bottom is low and there is a slight drag. It works well but needs about 1/8" more clearance.

Should this even be attempted?

We have the same problem with the front door on our 1994 Breakaway. Door functions perfectly, but lots of wind noise. Attempting to 'tweak' the door looks a little above my skillsets, so was able to eliminate 75% of the wind noise with a piece of 1992 Chevy S10 door molding (cut to length). Plan to add another short piece to the upper (angled) unsupported portion of the door. The issue is the wind noise.

Having said all that - if there are any Breakaway front door adjusting experts out there, we will make a trip to impose on your skills :-)..

Hi Rich,

I didn't notice any wind noise on our "maiden" trip but the ambient wind was blowing about 35 mph so it was not too quiet.

I have seen body shop guys use large pry bars and wood blocks to bring doors back into alignment. The Barth has a very large hinge that fastens the door to the frame over a long section and looks like it might not respond to this technique. The hinge has no adjusting mounts since it is riveted in place.

Is the front door is sagging or in our case the hinges had worn down. You can check your factory paint strips to see if they still line up.

To get our right I bought lock washers and cut them so they would slip over the rod. Lift door, insert cut lock washer. Walla!

I use 303 Protectant on the gasket occasionally. That's stopped the whistling.

Dear Cantrade -
Very interested in your solution to the front entry door problem and would like to make sure I understand what you did. Had big rainstorm today and discovered that our entry door is leaking water as well as air. Sometime in it's past, the top strap broke and the wind blew door open & took it out of adjustment. Has new strap plus a shock absorber about 1/3rd of the way from bottom so cannot blow open again, but back/bottom edge is sagging about 1/4 inch which opens space in the top and front. They entire door needs to be adjusted clockwise (top to the front) about 1/4 inch. That along with some good rubber seals should do the trick. Would appreciate just a bit more description on how/where you inserted those lock washers. Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you sprung the top of the hinge leaving the toe (latch side bottom dragging the door frame. If you can remove the hinge pin and twist the top barrel (door half of hinge) of the hinge towards the door it will lift the toe of the door up.You can also twist the coach side of the barrel towards the front of the coach and accomplish the same thing.

Don't know how a Breakaway hing is mounted to the door or coach. If you shim under the inside top edge ( away from the barrel) of the hinge on the door or coach this will rotate the hinge barrel center line and lift the toe of the door.

You can only go so far before you hinge bind.

My hinge was worn down. Put the cut washers on the hinge pin after lifting the door up.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

My door hinge is riveted to an upright (hopefully) on the body. I took the hinge pin out and inserted a flat washer under the door portions and it lifted the door sufficiently to clear the bottom of the opening. It no longer drags but you can still see a pretty evident misalignment between the edge of the door and the opening both at the top and edge. I think the entire hinge mounting has repositioned itself with the top half closer to the rear of the door opening. (I suppose the opening could be out of "square" also) I'm certainly not sure how to correct that and the idea of repositioning the door hinge mounting is not attractive at all for me and my backyard skills.
