I know the 460 isn't a Cat, but is the Ford a Dawg? This engine has been out of production now for several years I think, so while it may not be a problem for the next couple years, what about six, eight, or even ten years down the road? Parts availability, cost, anything to be concerned about?

Perhaps I should pay more attention to a good diet, exercise, and my own engine, rather than worry about whats under a Barth.

Several other with direct experience with the 460 can answer specifically about that engine, (and the probable C6 tranny it twirls).

Philosophically, however, I'd not worry about it. Engines with high populations tend to be supported by variety of aftermarket suppliers and manufacturers. At worst, come the day it's wheezed its last, and there's no parts, you can re-engine the beast with something contemporary - by then technology will have produced a 1.8L intercooled turbodiesel with 750 HP, 1400 lb-ft of torque, and available in a dual engine installation for $1,500.

When the 460 has become totally extinct, a Barth will still be around to enjoy the ceremony.

I am a confirmed Chevy guy, but would not let a Ford engine or chassis stop me from buying a good Barth.

I can still get parts for a complete rebuild of the 260 Ford V8 in my 1965 Sunbeam Tiger, so don't worry about the 460.
If you are talking about the 460 in the gas pusher in Quakertown, it is hooked up to an Allison 4 speed. Likely that is a plus compared to the C6 Ford.
And it appears the postings by Chris Dierl, et al. have returned to the General discussion forum regarding his Ford pusher.
So ... two big Barth gas pushers have surfaced on opposite sides of the continent. Identical side isle configs but consecutive model years. Adds to the mystique of the brand. Talk about "custom coaches"!!!
