I am having problems with the brakelights on my toad. All my lights work on the coach and also on the toad including the signal lights, everything except for the brake lights on the toad. It is a standard six pole connector. I believe the brake lights and the signal lights work off the same bulb. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

The ground wire to the plug is good. All the other lights are working. Was thinking that there might be a fuse somewhere.

Do the emergency flashers work? Do the toad's brake lights work from the toad's brakes both connected to the coach and disconnected? Is there power to the plug with the brakes on?

What is your toad? Many have a relay for the brake lights.

The toad is a 2012 Mazda. All lights work on the toad. Blu Ox installed the light kit last year in their factory in Nebraska. The brakelights worked then but has since stopped. The brakelights also work on the coach.

I believe the Mazda has an amber turn light separate from the brake lite. The Barth (at least ours) uses the brake lite for the turn signal. Now I'm assuming you are wired into the Mazda's lites.

Next do you have supplemental braking that pushes on the brake pedal?

In my case I did not hook the brake light up to the Barth as they will activate when the brake pedal is pushed by my supplemental braking system.

So what do you have?

Blu Ox installed separate lights inside the light assemblies. Looks like a standard 1157 bulb. I believe the turn signal and the brakes share the same filament. At least that is what the wiring diagrams online indicate for a 6 pole connector. I have air brakes so there is nothing else attached to the pedal that I know of.

Yelp. Looks like I will need to tie in to my coach break wiring. Believe the PO revised the wiring and now need to figure it out.

Fred,

I don't know if this will help or if you can do it to the Mazda.
I tow a Jeep Cherokee and found there was room to add extra light sockets inside the tail light assembly. I wanted to avoid connecting to the Jeeps lighting system which sometimes can cause electrical problems.
I installed the light sockets and ran trailer connection wire to the front of the Jeep where I installed a connector under the front bumper. I simply plug into the connector on the Barth and into the Jeep. This way, it is a direct connect and has nothing to do with the electrical system in the Jeep.
Just something to consider for you, or you can buy the magnetic trailer lights and put them on the roof of the Mazda. I did this at first and did not like it.
