Was driving our Barth yesterday to St Louis, about 100 miles when the cruise control suddenly kicked off. I tried to reset it several times but it disengages afer a few seconds. It will accelerate by keeping pressure on the switch, but disengages when I release the switch. I fugure it has to be the switch, unless anyone knows something else I should try. Thanks!

Check all your brake lights and make sure they are not loose causing an intermittent connection. or maybe one is burned out.

Cheers

If it is an EcoCruise, the clutch may have finally played out. Ours failed a couple of years ago and since that company has been out of business for many years, I had to replace it with a Cruise King unit which, fortunately, is able to use the wires already run. If it merely maintains speed while you are holding resume and not accelerating, that will be your problem.

Dear Jax -
We have a 1994 Breakaway XL with 8.3 Cummins and Allison 3060. Also a dash mounted cruise control (Mfg unknown - guessing a King). When first got the coach, the cruise control was intermittent. Removed top access panel for dash wiring and discovered loose wire lug connections - specifically between cruise control switch and the tach. Tightened connections and works perfectly - including the fast idle which was not working previously. These coaches take a beating on some of these 21st century roads. Intermittent is often loose connections or bad grounds.

Thanks guys. I have a king cruise control and I sent it back to them to have it checked out.
They checked it out and said there is nothing wrong with the cruise control. This is a bummer because I had to pay to ship it, paid for them to look at it and pay to have it shipped back to me. I am becoming very frustrated as something is always going bad on the coach and I feel like I am throwing money away.

The Barth, like all coaches are complicated and now suffer from age and disuse. If Preventative Maintenance is not performed theses oboes will get worse and more expensive. Similar to boats and planes. On our '93, the weak spot is the electrical system. Some have all red wires, most are unmarked and there are no real schematics. Our approach was to start at the front and find very wire, connection, and terminal board. Then we removed every clip, nut and breaker, cleaned, replaced corroded connectors and ran new grounds. That was
Abor intensive, but inexpensive and that pretty much ended our intermittent issues. I would suggest you not try to restore anything, rather use new technology to replace old. Air cruise, air wipers, new sealants, new hoses and fittings will give you all the advantages of a new coach. Others here can tell you how they upgraded and how they now enjoy their travels with only a few issues. Don't give up on the Barth, just read the forums on other new coaches like IRV2 and you will see we all share the same experiences. If you come to Milford many of us can help you sort out your concerns and issues.
