I use my Kill A Watt. My Kohler really likes to run at 60 hz. Setting the frequency made it run best. It is such a handy critter, you will find many other uses, as well.

Which model do you have? The P4400 looks like the basic model and the P4460 has a battery backup. Is it worth the few extra bux for the backup feature?

I have never felt that I needed a battery. However, for long-term energy monitoring, where you wanted to keep some numbers in the unit when it was unplugged or moved from outlet to outlet, it would be handier than a note pad.
