https://www.rvrepairclub.com/v...gn=A6201&vsoid=A6201 Quote: Department of Transportation codes determine what fire extinguishers are required to be included in all RV units. The RV fire extinguisher that comes standard with your unit will most likely be a 10BC extinguisher. This type of extinguisher is designed to handle electrical, motor fuel and car fires, however, it is not designed for and will not properly extinguish an ash fire on the outside of your RV. It’s suggested that all owners purchase a few additional RV fire extinguishers... How many do you have??? _________________________ The 82 MCC {by Barth} is not an rv-- it is a Motor Coach!!

Probably only the minimum on the camper but, on the boat you are not 3 feet away from an extinguisher (generally large) and two are 10# CO2 extinguishers intended for engine compartment fires. These should give everyone sufficient time to hit the Mayday button on the VHF and to abandon ship with a vest. With the camper it will either be a stove flare or a runaway, run away situation. With the boat it will be a life threatening experience, hence the difference in size and number. JMO, Tim

For RVs it seems refrigerator and gasoline generator fires are the big ones... In any case be sure the fire extinguishers are on the exit path, preferably near the door. If you have ever cleaned up after a dry chemical type after use, you won't want to do it again, very messy powder everywhere. I prefer gas types, ie CO2 or Halon. They will smother a fire more completely than powder, way less messy. I have a 1A10BC dry chemical type next to the driver's seat. There are two other small Halon ones near the galley. 9708-M0037-37MM-01 "98" Monarch 37 Spartan MM, 6 spd Allison Cummins 8.3 325+ hp

I have 3, a 10abc, an 8bc, and a halon. I agree with SteveVW about cleanup after a dry chem use - very messy. My wife left a skillet with oil on the stove...
