hello,Im looking at replacing our converter on our 77 barth. I am looking at (Lota) brand on E-bay, with a smart charger three stage 55 amp charger. Anyone know anything about the brand, good or bad? we had a problem with our batteries on our first voyage to the race track in Michigan. the batteries keept draining down over night, with nothing on in coach. the battery cables don't spark at all when disconected, and re conected, so I don't think we have a short. talking with someone at track, they thought that the converter might be bad. sounds like what I've read today in the tech section, it might be good to repace and up grade to a new converter, even if it is not our "draw" problem. any help appreicriated.

I'd suggest a Progressive Dynamics (Intellipower), as they're reiable, have a monitor module, and run a desulfating charge periodically. PPL has them.

Note that you now probably have a dual-output converter (one output charges the battery, the other powers the coach 12VDC system). You might have to do some minor rewiring, as contemporary converters are single output to the battery, and the 12VDC is picked up there.

Thanks, Rusty will do. Found the intellipower on ebay for 119.00 and 9.99 for the monintor. It is a 45 amp; should this be big enough? Considering that the one from 1977 was a 15-amp we thought that 45 amps should be plenty.

For a coach of your size, I'd go with at least the 60 amp - the 9200 models have the monitor module ("Charge Wizard") included. The 15A rating of your old one is for the charger output only. Since the battery was disconnected from the house circuits by the old converter, there was a second output (probably rated at 45A or so) that powered the house circuits, so you had 60A available.

This is the 9260, current production. The 9100s are at least two - probably three - years out of production. BTW, the other ebay 9260 is a factory refurb with a one-year warranty, while the linked one is new with 2 years'.

The Iotas are ones I've never heard of - but I noticed they have only a 90-day warranty.

Wow, thanks for the advice, and the E-bay link. we used that to make the purchase. saved us almost a hundred dollars from the other link you gave us. we also ordered the remote for the extra $10.00. Will probably be needing your assistance next month during the install. (Joy said Michigan is beautiful in October) ha ha We are in our semi truck for the month, and are in Beamount, TX right now. (loading in morning for Cheyenne, WY) weather is all well here for now. Wish we could make it to Tennesee for the rally next week, sounds like a lot of fun. next year when the Barth is completed will have to make one. Were guessing that your on your way there now, so drive safe, have a great time, and thanks for all the help past couple months. Jeff& Joy

Tomorrow's a good day to get out of TX! Have a safe trip to Cheyenne. I leave next Wednesday for the Barth GTG. Start loading and preflighting the coach tomorrow.
