On another site a guy had a pole mounted windmill like the 18" Ampair 100 on top of his RV but I lost the site. Just curious if any had seen it, or had contemplated using such a device while they were camping to charge their batteries/run all???

A friend has one. You can find them in marine supply sites. Used on sailboats. Works better than solar with some noise at high speed.

They can vibrate a MH, and can even vibrate the ground.

We all have things we abhor and let me preface my remarks by saying I do not care for the noise made by wind generators.

The newer models make a sound I find reminiscent of a swarm of angry, very angry, bees; bees with attitudes. The older models as Bill has remarked vibrated at a lower frequency and since sound is vibration it is clear they were no joy to be near either. In fact as Bill has eluded I’ll bet an older generator will turn your Barth into a low frequency sound generator that will be the envy of the sort of fellows that favor powered sub woofers with a taste toward distortion rather than base.

The following link is an article written by a couple that has been sailing for years. They discuss the actual cost of power generation over time.

Wind generator cost over time

Now if you are in an area with limited sun light and lots of wind, mounting the generator on a tripod and having it live 30 feet, no make that 100 feet, away from the coach is something I could live with.

Before I went sailing I thought that a wind generator was a good idea. Now I am a fan of solar cells.

Interisting link. Quite similar to so many other tales of generator tribulations. The final chapter is usually the purchase of a Japanese inverter generator.

I used to have a little Honda EX650 for shady sites. Wish I could get it back from the guy who bought the previous MH.

We have race friends who use a little Honda for their 5th. It makes almost no noise and will run everything but the AC. Then they have to fire up the Onan. The only thing keeping me from this route is the expense. They run about a grand, and that's a bit much for me right now for such a limited use item. Maybe next year.
