Shadow manmore power - try a/c???
Dick, no ice or snow. It was summer and the road was bare and dry. The exit was a sweeping curve to the right and downhill a little....happened very quickly and was a little exciting but managed to stay on the pavement.

bill hEd, did you by chance have Michelins on it? Their earlier versions had really sudden breakaway characteristics. This was most notable on rear engined cars. I liked Cinturatos on my 66. I still had some oversteer, but, if I kept on the throttle, I could control it, modulating throttle and steering together. Most rear-engined cars have a propensity toward understeer, anyway, particularly at trailing throttle. Also, the transition from trailing to leading throttle needs to be a little bit gradual, not sudden. Actually, in either direction.
I moved my battery up front, behind the right headlight. That helped a lot. And Konis. Cutting the springs, front and rear, lowered the roll center. I also ran negative camber, front and rear. I had a friend who had a John Fitch Spyder and ran time trials, so lots of good advice, there.
As a side issue, how about that fuel catalyst Fitch is pushing?
I ended up putting the heavily-modified (Salih barrels, Weber IDAs, slanted exhaust tubes, etc) engine in a dune buggy, and sold the car to a fellow who did a V8 mid engine conversion. When he was done, and had it dialed in, I rode around Willow Springs as a passenger. It was the most stunning ride I ever had. This from a motorcycle racer who really new the course! It cornered like a slot car. It is a good thing to sell a car you love to someone who loves it more and better.

Shadow manBill, i don't know what brand of tires were on it. It belonged to the guy i was going with to Expo 67. The 2 of us, a black lab, a small tv, a wetsuit and scuba gear and camping gear. We were gone for 45 days and only slept in a bed 3 times. Plus on our way back we picked up my sister in Illinois.

What a great trip!
