Has anyone gotten into the orange control box, and made a successful repair? My steps will extend, but not retract. I checked everything out, and the problem seems to center on the control box which costs over $100.00.

I have the same problem and concur...it appears to be a problem with the control unit. Mine has a mind of it's own.

Talk about luck, one of my neighborsm is a repsirman for GE and repairs MRI and ultrasound machines. He took that orange box apart and found a blown capacitor and one of the relays was not funtioning properly. I have to find a new relay, but he thinks it should be no problem. I need a 12volt 20 amp relay. If it doesn't fit in the orange box he will wire it outside.
A great neiborhood, a diesel tech and an electronic tech, how about that!!

Bosch makes a nice relay. Auto parts or alarm store usually have it.

My neighbor returned my orange box, which I installed, and now my steps worked perfectly. And Kwikee said it couldn't be repaired!! He replaced the capacitor & a relay which he got at radio shack. Total cost, a flat of strawberries! That sure beats the over $100.00 that Kwikee said it would cost!
