We are thinking about shipping the Barth to Europe. Would probably ship from Baltimore to Amsterdam. I have a quote for $5828 each way. To rent one in Europe would run about $4000 per month. We would spend 5-6 months there one years and then return a couple of years later and tour another area.

Ok, I a looking for suggestions on electrical.

Since Europe is 220/240 vac and makes no provision for 120 defines the problem.

My thought is to just install a 3000 watt full time inverter and rewire so the only source of 120vac is either generator or inverter.

Next install a Truecharge 40 amp auto-ranging universal input voltage (90-265 Vac, 47-63 Hz) charger. This allows plugging in anywhere.

I also carry a macerating pump for sewage removable.

So what I am looking for is other possible solutions. Great ideas always help.

That is how we are now, except we use a Prosine 2500 for both charging and inverting. In our case, the only need for more than that is air conditioning, which is met by either the genset or plugging in.

Our on-the-road macerator is 12 volts.

Do you have any info on what plugging-in facilities will be available? What restrictions are there on generator noise or pollution? We carry a little Honda for days or locations where the sun doesn't power the solar.

The trip sounds neat. I hope you will post as much as you can here, in case someone else wants to do it.

Several friends have Caravans in Europe. Mostly smaller than here due to some small roads and limited space. They campgrounds are often booked in advance or owned outright with park models.

The reports I have indicate the campgrounds are a bit more primitive than here but do have power and water and sewer.

I think using an RV in Europe would be a really neat trip and with a US rig you would get a lot of comments.

Good luck

Have you checked shipping from Canada, could be cheaper.

We saw a lot of motorhomes on the road in Tuscany when we were there in May 07.
There are plenty of caravan parks but the hill towns that are the attractions are not vehicle friendly. Always park in the bus lots. We had an 8 passenger Fiat Ducato that couldn't fit in most car lots.
We stayed at a villa, ...La Sorgente Casa Vacanza, ...beautiful place in a beautiful area, we are planning a return trip soon.
If you get into the area, I highly recommend Tuscany. Friendly natives, wonderful restaurants that are amazingly reasonable. One of the least expensive places in Europe so our neighbors at the villa said. Everyone else was from Sweden, England and Germany.
Have fun, ...would love to do it too someday.
