Coming back from Blue Springs today I noticed that after running in the perfect range all trip al of a sudden the OP was pegged out max. I watched everything else till I got to a rest area, and everything was fine. I shut her down and when I turned the key back on, not start, the OP gauge pegged again. I'm thinking a short or open circuit, since we drove the last hundred miles with no problems. Also, the new fuel pump and hoses seemed to cure the vapor lock problem, as we had no sputters all the way up, including big traffic jams in Orlando, and nothing coming back till near home, when she sputtered a little, but caught right back up. Over all, a good trip, I'll post some more in Journeys with some pix, but as you'll read there, don't go too far out of your way to go to Blue Springs. 79 Barth Classic | ||

Probably a bad sender. With regard to the sputters, check the carb filter and float setting. Sorry I couldn't get reservations, but I'm awaiting an exhaust elbow anyway, before replacing the muffler (which is in hand). It probably is a bad sender. They go bad often. My suggestion is to discard the sender and put in a mechanical gage, the 270 degree kind. Then tee in an idiot light switch connected to an alarm or buzzer under the dash. Most of us do not watch the oil pressure gage often enough to alert us in the unlikely event of a catastrophic loss of oil pressure. Even an idiot light can be missed. While on the subject of alarms, I remember a Barth owner who would have benefitted from an overheat alarm. . 84 30T PeeThirty-Something, 502 powered | |||

Danny, if you have sputters that suggest vapor lock, be darn sure you have fresh fuel filters all the way from the tank to to carb. My 33' Regal had two in-line filters, plus the one in the carb. I changed them all; no subsequent ploblems. | |||
