Hi William, It would help to post what model you have. There are many different types of cruise control used and would be hard to offer help without knowing what you have. Cruise control malfunction is quite common on these early Breakaways. It is from any number of reasons. 1. If it is a vacuum operated system (Cummins 5.9L powered are usually VAC operated) The air pressure operated vacuum generator may be defective. It was a unit commonly used on Fords and no longer available. 2. If you have changed to LED brake lights, there is usually not enough holding current to operate the cruise control relay. If you have changed over to a LED system, a separate load resistor may restore operation. 3. A Vacuum leak some where between the VAC generator and the servo unit. 4. Poor connections from the control stalk to the control unit. I found the bulk head connector at the rear of the coach was badly corroded and part of my problems. It was exposed to the outside and rear wheel spray. There are at least 5 connections that are critical through this connector. 5. Control unit not receiving signals from the speed pick-up unit, whether it is a separate unit or coming from the transmission speed signal transducer. 6. The control unit on mine was located just above the rear axle on the passenger's side, not an ideal place for an electronic unit. Lots of possibilities for failure over the years and probably not many parts available for these units. IMHO your best approach would be to replace the entire system with a new electronic system that does not use a vacuum source. There is a lot of truth to Mwrench suggestions. Aftermarket universal cruise control is very inexpensive today.. It's also a great option being finding problems and parts with old systems can prove difficult. I say look for the things suggested by Mwrench to repair but ultimately look for a newer replacement cruise control. You will spend about the same $$ either way. But that's just MHO Cheers Meric | |||

William: Several years back I purchased a Cruise Control unit from Whitney's catalog about $160.00. I paid to have it installed. It mounts flush on the dash and works flawessly..................
