The Allison 4-speed is a much simpler mechanical trans. Vs. the computer controlled electronic 3060.
I would keep what you have.

Ok - I replaced the 542 with a 2000. Best thing I did and would do it again. There is quite a bit of info here if you search. The 2000 is almost a straight R&R. Didn't even have to change the driveshaft.

I have the 5 speed and have no need for the 6 speed. Does about 70mph at 1800, plus with the lock up no stopping to cool down the transmission in the moutains.

I have a '94 30 footer (built in '92,'93)with the 3060, the issues you would have would be a lot to change. As Steve said there would be a lot of electrical/electronic issues. The MD 3060 is BIG. Mine also has the Eaton rearend which has a higher numerical ratio then the Dana 80 rearend you have.

The set up you have is just OK, a bit buzzy at cruise speeds over 60, and a bit on the weak side. Overheating is a killer!

I don't think it would pay off in the long run to change.

I have converted two bus conversion RV to 1- MD3060 & 1-MD4060. Both were a challenge but are working very well.

Huge difference in converting to a 3060 vs 2000. I rejected the 3060 after looking into it. 2000 is a peace of cake.
