My 34', Cat 3208-300/ACME cruise had similar problems. It turned out to be a leaky vacuum line connection.

Good luck (let us know)

Nick

I'm having a similar issue...cruise control works then doesn't work. Was your issue resolved?

Mine is 'running away', when the cruise is set it starts to gain speed. I was told to shoot WD40 on the air cylinder on the engine, I will test tomorrow.

Rip it out! Three times on our jeep the cruise control came on by itself and floored the throttle. Damn near rear ended a car one of those times. I disabled it the 2nd time it did it but when i had a new engine put in they hooked it back up even though i told them not to. Did not find out till a month later when it took off for the 3rd time. This time i broke it so it can never be hooked up again. Same thing happened to us with a 1 ton van. fixed that one too. Makes me wonder how many accidents have happened because of this, ( older folks running thru crowds or store windows ? ) but people don't realize the real cause.

My cruise has failed to operate on TWO occasions:

1. When the Treadle Valve was failing, which was causing the brake light switch to sometimes remain closed [brake lights ON], which will in-turn not allow the cruise control to operate. This was an intermittent problem, so sometimes the cruise worked and sometimes it didn't. Replaced treadle valve - problem solved.

2. When the speedometer stopped working due to a failure of the Speedometer Ratio Adaptor. When the Speedometer Ratio Adaptor [connected to the output on the tranny] stops "turning", the mini-generators which send a signal to both the speedometer and the cruise control stop sending signal, thus, the cruise stops working. Replaced the Speedometer Ratio Adaptor - problem solved.

Cruise Control seems to work very well without any fluctuations in speed other than due to terrain.

Shadow, ("Rip it out"), I like your style. Sort of like John Daly--'Grip it and rip it'. I get so PO'd sometimes, I just want to look for a gun--large caliber Mad. Maybe even a stick of dynamite.

For me it is a safety thing. The 1st time it happened, my wife was by herself and scared the hell out of her. Luckily the other 2 times with the jeep i was driving, still startled me when it happened and it was so quick that we almost rearended a car before i got it shut down. The time in the van i was by myself and it was after the first 2 times in the jeep so i knew what was going on. If it had only happened to us once i would have thought it was just a freak occurrence, but 4 times within 2 years is a little too much for me. From now on anything that i buy that has cruise control on it will have it disabled immediately. Smiler

Almost forgot......years ago a girlfriend and i were driving a 57 Ford wagon that she had just bought. On a long straight stretch she decided to give it a little more gas and all of a sudden it took off. She didn't know what to do so i reached over and shut off the key. Came to a stop and checked it out....turned out that the throttle return spring on the carb got hung up when it went past a certain spot. Bent the bracket just a little and no more problem.
