I'm installing an exhaust temp/turbo boost/transmission temp 3 way guage. Does anyone have any idea where I should locate the pickups for the turbo and the exhaust?

Thanks,

Rick

There is a plug in the intake manifold toward the rear of the engine, just aft of the air supply hose for the sir compressor. this can be taken out and with a reducer 1/2" to 1/4" the boost pressure can be taken from there.

I have trapped into the exhaust about 3" aft of the turbo outlet, I welded a bung on the exhaust pipe there for the EGT sensor. Remember, at this location the exhaust gases will be about 300 degrees cooler then they are at the exhaust manifold before the turbo inlet.

I had my exhaust manifold drilled and tapped for the sensor. Pre-turbo temps more accurately reflect what's going on, but the post-turbo works also. You have to adjust the temps as Ed mentioned.

Mission accomplished! Thanks for the input. the new guage works great. I did tap the exhaust pipe instead of the manifold. Given that, what should I have for an exhaust temperature before I shut the engine down?

How far away from the turbo is the sensor? I use 1250 degrees as the target maximum BUT, that would be if the sensor is in the manifold NOT the pipe.

My sensor is in the pipe and is about 3 inches away from the turbo, I use 950 degrees on the gauge as the maximum operating temperature and I allow the engine to idle until I see 450 degrees on the gauge. After a fairly hard run that would take about 5 minutes idling to settle at that value.
