The lack of manuals is starting to get to me….!
I can’t get the propane system up and running, cold showers are starting to bug me.
Here is where I am so far – the tank is full and I went to fire up the system – I tried to push the switch on the detector and it disappeared. The previous owner had bypassed the switch/detector! I temporarily wired in a switch and traced down the solenoid valve in a metal box with the pressure regulator – the solenoid had been disconnected. That solenoid now make the correct noises when the switch is engaged….but still no gas. There is also another solenoid next to the manual shut off valve….no idea what it is connected to (one blue wire). The only label on it lists a max temperature for the gas and liquid.
Anybody got an idea here? I don’t want to assume that I can energize the second valve with 12v….it seems odd to have two gas shut off solenoid valves…

Boy a wiring diagram would be nice…

Chris,

We have a 1985 MCC and had issues with the propane, ours has two valves between the tank and the inside of the coach. It was worth having this issues fixed at the local shop to assure that it was working correcty.

Once the local shop fixed the issue, we have not had any problems.

I disassembled the solenoid valves, checked them and reassembled them. The low pressure solenoid is controlled by the gas detector but the high pressure solenoid is a bit of a mystery. I wired it up to a manual switch and I have the LP up and running, it would be nice to know how the high pressure solenoid is supposed to be powered!

I had issues with my propane also. Wires not making a good connection. I had two control valves, and the high pressure valve was wired to a switch in the 'propane fill bay' marked with something like 'fast fill'. I think this valve was not a shutoff, but a low/hi flow valve. I removed it and it's wireing, and installed a kit that gave me the ability to run from an external tank also. My propane detector works fine, but I have seen them for sale on RV on-line sites.

"but the high pressure solenoid is a bit of a mystery...."

Do you have a propane generator? If so, perhaps the "high-pressure" solenoid sends gas to the generator and thus the solenoid will be opened by the generator "start" switch?? My Barth has two gas lines: one to the coach appliances and one to the generator.

Nope, diesel genset. The high pressure valve is connected to the tank and then feeds the pressure regulator and finial the low pressure solenoid valve.
