I have a 1976 Barth with the 454. I'm going to rebuild the distributor and I have a question about the shim spacing at the bottom of shaft on the top side of the gear. I check mine and it seems to have a lot of up an down movement, I measured it and the spacing is .065 seem to me that I read that it should be about .007.
Can you buy these shims?

Thanks Ralph

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/587,73_Distributor-Shim-Kit.html has them, but so should any good speed shop or Chevy dealer.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but a motor home runs pretty hot, so set it up on the loose side of the range they give you in the manual. The aluminum housing expands more than the steel shaft.

One more thing...........Be sure to use only Delco parts. If possible, use NOS Delco. Some of the later stuff is made outside the USA.
