My quick easy dinner tonight turned into a electrical BBQ. It is a 1992 Sharp Carousel II microwave convection combo. I pushed the conv button, set the preheat to 400F and when it beeped for ready temperature I put my DiGiornio pie in the hot oven. Started it up, felt heat coming off of it.
Then the smoke detector went off. First I thought it was the extra heat - BUT I smelled something funny. First I thought I forgot the plastic wrapper in there. Then the smoke came billowing out.

I quickly turned it off. Smoke was still coming from the inside top right hand side (inside the oven), the little vent with holes in it. The pizza pie was unthawed but stonecold. After the smoke settled I bravely set a cup of water in there and turned the microwave on. Within 5 seconds it zapped it and it got dark, no more clock, nothing.

Nothing else in the coach quit working and I cannot find a breaker for it. Confused
Any ideas? I do not like to fool with microwaves since they have a transformer in it that stays on from what I understand, even unplugged ...

BTW carried the pizza pie across the street for final browning.

It's a capacitor, not a transformer, that retains a charge. but it won't retain after a day unplugged.

Probably blew the fuse. It is behind the front panel. Do a search and you should find a write up on replacing it.

Found an Emerson Micro/Conv oven at Walmart for $179. The outer dims would fit 21" wide 13" high. But it is too deep, worried about enough cooling space. Will check if we can get the Sharp fixed. I think it is more than a fuse - it still has a lingering burnt plasic smell.

If the fuse had blown, the rest wouldn't have happened. The symptoms are that of a failed transformer or controller board.
