I did a search, but to no avail so I'm looking for some immediate help. We're getting ready to takeoff for a long weekend and I can't seem to get my Dometic refrigerator to work on propane. It keeps going to fault. Funny thing is, I just used it last weekend while dry camping with no problems on gas only. Now I can't get it to turn on???? If I turn the generator on, the frig will work on AC. But as soon as it tries to go to propane, it goes into fault. Any ideas??? I know ours will not start without adequate dc power. How's your coach batteries? Not sure if ac power will do the same thing?? But for sure she won't start without dc. Ours is the original Norcold 3 way? Also, how level is she? Good luck. Don 1990 Regency 34' Cummins 6CTA 8.3 240hp Spartan Chassis, 4 speed Allison MT643

We seemed to have the opposite problem with our dometic. For some unknown reason it spent the entire weekend trying to light the pilot light. I did not have the propane on at the tank. I turned the GAS knob off at the fridge & it continued to try to light, even though the gas was not on at the tank still. Actually it was lighting the pilot & turning it off every time it clicked. We contacted dometic because the way it is supposed to work is to go to AC-Shore power 1st, then it searches for DC power & lastly it searches for gas. I think we have a dc off/on switch that is off because it never went to dc when we turned the shore power off & tried to light it went straight to lighting the pilot & turning it off. Dometic didn't know what to do either. It continued to light & then turn it off. It was constant- snap....snap................snap............snap.................................snap.....snap. The other thing is that while on our weekend I tried to turn off shore, & use gas for fridge for fear the lighting function would be destroyed but it would never light on gas on our trip. When we got home we talked to dometic-no help. So we wanted to try to light the pilot light to see if the propane function would even work. We turned everything off-fridge off, shore power to neutral, turned the gas on at the tank, turned the knob on the back of the fridge, then turned the fridge on. The pilot lit & the gas worked. (We unscrewed the little cover plate over the pilot light to make sure there was actually fire) We let it run for 5 or 10 min on gas then we turned the fridge off, turned the gas off at back of fridge & turned off gas at tank. Let it sit with everything off for 5 more minutes & turned on the shore power, turned on the fridge & it went to shore power without trying to light the pilot. It was almost like there was an internal reset. Give this a try in relation to your issue, maybe it will work. My story is a little confusing so good luck. Tere

Go to 'rvmobile.com'. There's an extensive discussion about the Dometic 3-way. I read through it once and will have to spend more time. The brain doesn't work as well as it used to. Jim http://www.rvmobile.com/Tech/Trouble/aes.htm Good info to have in the Barth manual.

Thanks to everyone for their response. Here we go again...amazingly, the frig is now running. I did charge my coach batteries over night and maybe that was the problem in it lighting the propane? The coach is level in my driveway, as I am very aware of the problems when it is not level. The chassis batteries are brand new, but I don't think they help in the operation of the coach functions. Anyway, its up and working and we are out of here at noon, heading to Watkins Glen, NY for the NY Wine Festival. 9303 3855 33BS 1B Bruce & Kathleen 1993 33' Front Entrance Breakaway 230HP Cummins 5.9, Allison 6 speed, Spartan Chassis, Nicely Optioned

If your propane is turned off at the tank, it will seem like forever to start the fridge after you turn it on, even if you fill the lines by turning on the stove or furnace first. You'll get gray hair waiting for the fridge to start if you don't fill those lines first, and once in awhile it seems you are just attacked by the perversity of inanimate objects, & you have to go away for awhile & try again later. That's my take after 40 years of experience.

I always start my stove on propane first to draw the gas up the line at least to where they split. Yea, I always start my gen set after refilling the propane tank. That usually gets things ready to run on propane. I keep telling my wife that our Barth has a mind of its own and you just have to go with the flow. Ran into a couple of other problems while away this weekend. I will do a search for some answers to the newest issues, but the frig ran fine the whole time. 9303 3855 33BS 1B Bruce & Kathleen 1993 33' Front Entrance Breakaway 230HP Cummins 5.9, Allison 6 speed, Spartan Chassis, Nicely Optioned
