I have recently purchased 4 Trojan T-105 GC Batteries. I have installed 2 of the 4 new batteries and am currently using them with my original converter / charger. I am thinking it would be best to upgrade to a more appropriate charging system and am following the lead of this forum in considering the Inteli Power 9200. I am concerned that the original converter / charger could possibly experience a critical failure while attempting to charge 4 batteries. My question is in regard to the amp rating of the 9200. There are 4 models [best that I can tell], rated at 45 amps, 60 amps, 70 amps and 80 amps. Which of these is most appropriate for this particular application and "why"??? -and- Would I be OK for a short time with the original converter / charger, as I would like to mount the remaining 2 batteries within the next few days(???) ~Mac~ 1990 31 Foot Regency Spartan Chassis Cummins 6CTA8.3 Alison MT643, 4-speed 8905-0123-31RDS-A2

You didn't mention what your "current" (a little play on words there, I suppose) converter is, but no doubt it can handle the additional batteries, just s-l-o-w-l-y. Obviously the 80 amp Intellipower would be the choice in that it represents maximum charging rate, but that's still only about 8A @ 120VAC, so no 120V wiring need be replaced. That may NOT be the case with 80A DC, and your old converter may be dual output, so the net is you may need new converter output cables, as well as cross-connecting the old converter's outputs. Dual-output converters have a charging section and a house-power section. I have the 9200 60A, and it's fine for my pair of golf cart 6V batteries; I would've gone to the 80A version, but at the time it wouldn't fit; now I've moved the 120VAC duplex outlet for the block heater to a more accessible location, there's room. It's a Magnetec TU-775-2 made by B-W Manufacturers and without looking [not "currently" at home], I do believe it's rated at 75 amps. ~Mac~ 1990 31 Foot Regency Spartan Chassis Cummins 6CTA8.3 Alison MT643, 4-speed 8905-0123-31RDS-A2

The dual-output thingies show total output; there's a section for the house 12VDC, and another for the battery-charging circuit. Older Magnetecs are dual-output. This will require you to install a jumper between the house output and the battery charger output to complete the installation of the 9200. This ain't rocket science, but since the single-output converters pass all the power through the battery, which now powers the house circuits THROUGH the battery, a robust connection is in order. I have the 9200 80-amp system, (over two years) and four golf car batteries. I installed it on the mount that the original converter was mounted. I also have the Xantrex Link 20 dual battery monitor system. This has been one of the best investment modifications I have made to date on my Barth. I like to 'boondock' and when needed, the generator will recharge the batteries in a reasonable time. I rarely add water to batteries, and overall, the 12v system works like it should. just bought the intel 9200.put where old converter was connected to wires to batteries..<2 wires> was wondering since this is a smart charger when i run it off the genny will the alternator from the genny give the 9200 false reading and make it charge at a lower rate?or am i thinking backwards tks .......

The converter will be unaware of the source of juice. It will go into "boost/desulfating" whe the 12oVAC come on after an interruption. It does nothing when the batteries charge from the engine alternator, except show charge status. Does anyone know if there is a converter/charger that has the 12V distribution board right in it? I only need around 4-6 slots as this is just to feed my car trailer. Any thoughts? Also, if someone has an old unit that they've taken out that would serve this purpose, please consider selling it to me. I'll be at the NE gathering in a few weeks on the odd chance that presented an opportunity. OK, that would possibly do the trick. We travel pretty close to you on our way down to Florida at end of August. Perhaps we could hook up!?! I have the original converter from my coach, did a good job keeping batteries charged, but not very quick. It is a Magnetek TU-775-2 12 vdc 75 amps max. I will try to attend the NE GTG for the pot-luck but since my coach is not going places yet this year, I will just drive in for a visit. I can bring the converter with me. Jack, Great that we will get to meet each other even if it is in "taxachusettes"! Hope you can make it and see you then.
