I have motoraid furnaces and water heater on my coach. The insulation around the hoses has been eaten by an animal I fear. Is this a gazillion Dollar fix? ------------------

Dave, it looks like it might be regular neoprene pipe insulation. If only the insulaton is damaged, you can replace it. Try a plumbing supply or Home Depot or Lowes. Just cut out the damaged and slip on new.

Dave, what you find in a box store won't be the same color or consistency as the original, but don't sweat it, as long as it fits. If it's not quite fat enough for your hoses, slip it on, and cut a piece of the excess (you'll have to buy at least 4' of it) to fill the gap, and tape it in with duct tape. Not pretty, not original, but just as effective.

Hi, Some stuff I recently bought has peel off film on both faces of the slit (the one that allows you to fit it around the pipe without disconnecting it.) When the insulation is in place you pull off the tape and the edges stick together really well. It minimizes use of tape and may even eliminate it. I got mine at Home Depot. Pesky lil' chipmunks! Hope this helps, Bill [This message has been edited by eugarps (edited August 24, 2004).]

Would "Great Suff" spray foam make a simple job of it?

I wouldn't recommend Great stuff for this application. It wouldn't hold up under flex and wind and weather. The pipe wraps mentioned would seem to be the way to go. The black heater hose tape might be a better sealer than duct tape. If those critters start chewing through the pipes themself, MOVE!! ------------------ Dan & Suzy Z '81 Euro 28

Hi Guys , LOWES Has the pipe insulation with the split seam, all you have to do is put it on the tubing ,pull the tape off and it seals itself. 1.50 for a 6ft peace, used some today on my tubing running to my hot water heater. Ralph Glover
