Randy O.def. fan switch
I am in the process of figuring out the items on my Barth Regal. There is a loaded switch labeled def fan that doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone tell me what it is? It seems to be an original item. This is a 1984 Regal 28.

RustyYou didn't say where it was, but if on the dash, probably "defroster fan", a 4-6" fan mounted on top of the dash. Sounds like yours have been removed. I don't know what "loaded" means, but I'd keep the switch away from alcohol...

Randy O.Thanks. By loaded, I meant you have to hold it on. When you release it, it returns to orig.position. It is on the dash beside the acc. switch.

Mogan Davidodd that the switch for the caged 12V DEFROST FANS would be spring-loaded to off. I had the switch, but never paid any attention because it appeared that Dr. Yale had not ordered the $200 option.
ps
You probably have a long access panel, above the instruments, which should make it relatively easy to get to, and replace, that switch.

RustyAgree - makes one wonder if the switch were mislabelled or replaced with the wrong type.

Not easy to see but this shows my dash def fans.
This shows my switch. It is the black rocker switch, far right, above the vent.
It is marked def fan above and on the right of it, says hi (up) lo (down), center off.
The fans work on hi. Switch is hard to center and no fan on lo, so I suspect it's a bad switch.
I have similar rocker switches to the left of steering wheel. 2 of them are "loaded" one is for flashing clearance lamps off. The other is aux start boost, press to engage relay.

Jerry CampseyRandy sounds like me. I bought an 85 Regal 28'125,000 miles. Had it since last August and leaving on first trip tomorrow. I bought a fixer upper and it has been interesting. Done lots and replaced lots but now I am ready. Still trying to determine what all the switches and things do. This is my first RV and there is lots to learn. Looking forward to Barth Rally in May to see what else I need to do.

Randy O.I've been out of pocket for awhile. Thanks for all the responses and pictures. I guess the switch is for caged fans that were never installed, since there are no signs that they have been removed. My newest problem is an emergency brake cable that I have found is discontinued by GM.
