tranny switch?

Any of you wrench monkeys have any experience switching trannys? I have an SOB with a C-6 trans that is just too light to push around the huge load. Are there any trannys out there that I can switch to that would give me more than the three forward speeds that I now have and be more durable than the C-6 has proven to be. I would like to find something that can easily be installed behind my Ford 460. Thanks for your input.

You might check with Jeg's Racing or Summit for a bell housing adapter. A lot of drag racers swap the Ford automatic out for a GM. You might check with GM's Allison transmission division if they make a big block Ford bell housing for their Allison 5 spd automatic. I've heard that they make a housing for the Ford Powerstroke diesel.
