Was looking for some feedback on the different lighting systems available for towing your car behind your Barth. What has worked well for you? Magnetic lights, bulb and socket, or the diode kits?

We have our GMC 1500 wired like a trailer. The magnetic lights are also detachable from the wiring harness so they can be stored easily. I carry the golf cart in the bed of the truck (8' box )with the tail gate down and the mag lights can be set on my bumper, tailgate or even the golf cart backseat foot rest.

Works great!

Suzuki/Tracker. Wired into the vehicle system except for brake light. Ok it's a little more complicated because the toads have a separate light for the turn signals and the brakes have their own lights. The Barth shares the brake with turn signal lights, so the Barth has the front turn signals wired to the toad signals and the brake light used to come off the brake light switch. Now I have an air cylinder activating the brakes on the toad so the toad provides power to the brake lights.

As a side note both our toad do not lock the steering wheel when the key is shut off. You have to pull the key out to activate the steering lock. Many of the Jeeps are the same way. And with the ignition switch off the is no feedback into the toad electrical system. I can not speak for for all possible toads, just mine.

We use a light bar. The toad has a permanent cable running from front to back. It plugs into the Barth trailer light connector in front and into the short pigtail on the light bar in back.

The light bar itself is just two auto parts store taillights with hangers that are locked in place by raising the back window fully. This, of course, depends on your vehicle. I would use magnetic if I could, but the elderly 4Runner has a fiberglass roof.

I like the idea of wiring my car like a trailer and going with a detachable mag light set. Thanks for the feedback!

I used the magnetic signals attached to the roof of my towd with a very thin piece of soft cloth between the magnet and the roof; the magnets were strong enough to hold tightly to the car. With a diffuser adhered to the back window and a clear aisle down the center of the coach I could see the "Mickey Mouse" ears through my center mirror. I was able to back (usually not recomended nono with four down) the towd into most any parking slot. Tooling Along
