Do you hear a squeak when you start up? My very limited experience would tell me Alternator, Alternator belt problem. When my belt broke the mechanic told me that sometimes the pulley is loose and the shaft gets out of round with the coil and you won't get a full charge. Bill H. or one of 20 others will tell you what I mean and make it understandable.

You might check the voltage at the battery. A lose belt, like dave mentioned, could be the problem or the the alternator could be bad. I just replaced the alternator on our trip back from the midwest when it started to make bearing noises. I noticed that the voltage would drop to four or five volts when the motor was at an idle. After I installed the new unit my voltage stayed right where it should be even at idle.

I just checked mine, and the voltage drops one volt when I turn on the lights on low beam. My pickup drops about half a volt, but it does no have all the marker lights that the Barth does.
