Finally got the small door open to access the fill tube for the 44 gallon fresh water tank on our 93 Breakaway. Was going to sanitize the tank first, drain it, and then do it again since there is evidence it may never have been done before. PO always hooked up to city water but used the 'auto fill' system to fill the tank and then ran off the water pump. He didn't know how to use the city water pressure.
Problem is that when I start to put water in the fill tube, a small amount goes in, maybe a pint or two and then water starts to come out the fill tube. Then air bubbles out, the water goes in the tank and you start the whole process again. At that rate it would take hours to fill the tank. I never had this problem on the 85 Regal. What am I doing wrong? I understand that the air pressure in the tank must be preventing the water from going in but then how would the autofill system work without problem? There is an overflow tube next to the fill pipe but it doesn't seem to act as an air vent. BTW, the tank is dead empty.

Morning Jim, just hook up to city water and use the auto fill. it just goes in the tank, dosen't use the fill tube. Don't know why you are having trouble with the fill tube but you might try and run something down it to maybe clear it. Have fun Tom

Jim on my Breakaway, I don't have the filler under the door as you do! The only way I can fill my fresh water tank is thru the city water bib with the "auto fill". I have to turn off the internal water pump while it is on "auto fill" or the pump will run continuously.

Certainly nothing wrong with that method. You should have a full alarm to notify you that the tank is full when filling with this method..

Many times if the city water pressure is low, I will connect to the city water and then turn on the pump (not with the "auto fill") on to increase the water pressure and volume.

What does the connection look like inside the door?

Open the drain and try to fill it. If the water goes in like it should, there's a venting issue. If not, it's a fill pipe issue.

In addition to the autofill solenoid valve (actually, a propane valve) there is a manual cutout valve for that line. Also, make sure the "Autofill" switch on the console is ON - that activates the autofill valve and the level alert.

On the 94 Breakaway I had, the water would not go into the fresh water tank unless I opened a valve on the back wall of the compartment near the water pump. When I did, the water pump would turn on and run constantly. I did not want to hear that, so I turned it off. The valve had a blue round knob.
