Slowly finishing all the projects before big road trip next week. I took my 1988 Regal 25 for the test drive yesterday and I noticed that my Cruise Control in misbehaving. When set, it keep accelerating a bit and then slowing down. When I gently placed my foot on the gas pedal, I can feel it going in and out constantly.
Did anybody experience that kind of issue?
Any pointers what to check?

Thanks,
Peter

These are analog and the symptoms are indicative of the failing controller. As I remember it is easily replaced, perhaps not easily purchased, in this digital age. Good luck.

The cruise on my 86 Regal was cable driven. Originally, the cable ran from the side of the transmission to the speedometer head.

When the cruise was installed, it was mounted down near the transmission. A shorter cable ran from the transmission to the cruise module, then another cable was connected from there to the speedometer.

If either cable became sticky the cruise would act sluggish and speed would vary. If yours is cable driven, be sure your cables are well greased.

I first replaced my speedometer with a Speedhut GPS gauge. Worked great, didn't need the speedo cable then.

Later I installed a Dakota Digital speed control. It uses an electrical signal from the distributor. Ultimately, I retired the entire OEM system and capped off the cable stump at the transmission. Good luck with your cruise, it is SOOO nice to have. Tooling Along

Gas. It started working again without a problem. It made it from Milwaukee, WI, to Banff, Canada, with no issues!
