I let the mixturee dry to allow the bleach to work as long as it could. I used an industrial-strength cleaner (Purple Power) mixed 50-50 with water and scrubbed first, then bleach 30% to water, with Dawn detergent as a wetting agent.

After the detergent wash, I checked for bad spots, found none, so did the bleach wash.

RV dealers have what you'll need to patch the peeling areas. If I were doing it, I'd use an etching primer first on the bare metal. I don't know about the grit, but sandblastng sand could be sprinkled on top or mixed in. I'd do the former, as it takes several hours for the coating to level and dry.

Rusty, have you (or anyone else who reads this) ever used TSP trisodium phosphate, to clean the roof? The Cool Seal website talks about using that before their elastomeric coating. But the website directions are not specific to cleaning a ruberised roof coating on an aluminum roofed motor home

TSP is a wetting agent (as are detergents). It can be safely mixed with chlorine bleach. I couldn't find mine so used Dawn. Bare aluminum is easy to clean, but the clean metal will start to oxidize right away, so any coating won't adhere well uless a primer is applied first. If ziinc chromate primer is used, the top coat should be applied right away - as soon as the zinc chromate has dried.

I'm assuming that the roof coating was installed by Barth at the factory and is a rubberized coating with some kind of sand in it to improve footing while dancing on the roof. But, you know what they say about assuming--it "makes as*** out of you and me"--ass u me" So, does anybody know what the original roof coating on an 85 Regal would be?

I use TSP, TRISODIUM PHOSPHATE, for cleaning my roof.
TSP is used for washing surfaces prior to painting, especially exterior surfaces. Liquid bleach is often added to TSP if there is mildew on the surfaces. The TSP and bleach act in concert to both kill the mildew and remove its characteristic stains. It may be used on inside surfaces also, but try to mask all surfaces except the one you want to clean. It can damage many metal and painted surfaces, and can stain woods. It is not recommended for use on glass, either, since it will leave a filmy residue.
It can be applied with a brush or sponge. Wear suitable clothing and eye protection. Keep away from skin and out of gloves. Liberally wet down the outside of the coach and rise immediately.
