Hi Bill, thanks for showing the location of the fuse box. I have looked in there. Unless I'm missing something there are just a series of bus(es). At least two of them resemble fuse boxes in that they list the amps and what circuit(s)they are.Are there fused links I'm not seeing or conventional fuses/circuit breakers? Having been an Airframe and Power plant mechanic for a hundred and twenty five years I am embarrassed to ask such fundamental questions but I give up-I can't find them. The more I look into this machine ,the more I appreciate the quality. Some of it seems a tad over engineered but I "spect" they were good engineers. . Thank you in advance and have a good evening. In that electrical compartment you will find a lot of "circuit breakers" and only a few fuses. Most of the lighting and other chassis 12V related circuits are fed thru circuit breakers from a long buss bar. These breakers will normally trip if overloaded and then return to service after they have cooled, however if the fault still exists, they will trip again and again. The breakers look like smaller metal boxes with two terminals sticking out and one of the terminals is usually bolted to the buss bar(s). You will find two buss bars, one is hot all the time and the other is controlled by the ignition switch. You may have a separate fuse holder that has 6 fuses (dual blade style) there as well but those will probably be fed from the house batteries. A voltmeter is your friend when in there, there is usually a diagram that tells what wire and what breaker feeds what, Barth did a great job of identifying all the wires by number and description, similar to aircraft ID. Thanks Ed! I did finally realize that I was looking right at the circuit breakers. And you are right about the wire marking being A/C like;I had noticed that and was impressed.I have power to the downstream side of the fuse and located a wire marked:"brake switch feed"I could not physically follow it..... I went under the steering gear/brake area and saw a pneumatic valve that I assume is for the brakes. It has a ,what appears to be,pressure switch,is this for the brake lights? My arms are getting shorter as my get eyes worse-it's about 30" away. Is there another way to access this? area? If your brake lights are the ones not working, the first thing to check is the light bulbs and the sockets at the rear, I found one of my brake/tail lights to have been overheated and was not making good contact. Then if it appears that the bulb is making good contact with the base move to the switches. Yes there are two pressure switches located on the brake foot valve. Check both sides of each switch when pushing the brake peddle to see if it is operating. The switches are a bit difficult to. I found the problem with the brake lights, thanks to those who offered advise. It ended up being a corroded wire, the power wire from the bus to the air valve pressure switch. It was corroded all the way interrupting the power. It was buried in the plastic conduit-about 24 inches in. Looked as though someone had used a ice pick type voltage tester, penetrated the wire insulation then it began corroding.Cheap fix for me but took hours to find....Thanks again.Richard Garrett 1991 Breakaway,Spartan chassis model:EC2242 5.9 Cummings:6BT5.9-B, Trans:AT542,B,Kohler LP:KT17EP Vin457KT9T19MC003703 | |||
