Torque converters
I had the tranny out on my new 85 Regal, since the tranny cover was cracked and decided to have the tranny rebuilt while I was at it. Wasn't quite ready to drop $3500 on a Gear Vendors over/under, but discovered that TCI makes a torque coverter for the T400 Chevy tranny that acts like a lock up converter and drops the rpm 200/300 once you get rolling. Heavy springs in the valve body and a heavy sprague make for a little more torque in first and second as well. Had it out for the first time today and it is one nice tranny, very tight and smooth. Now some day I'll put that over/under on it and have myself a nice 6-speed.

That sounds like a good improvement, and a lot less expensive than Gear Vendors. Could you provide some info.; a website, model numbers, etc., or anything else that would help someone get the technical details?

A long time ago someone else commented on these TCI products. I even called the local Aamco transmission guy and he said they install them. I though he said like 400 bucks. http://www.tciauto.com/gm/gm_turbo_hydramatic.htm

Got any real life figures on the rpm drop in cruise on that TCI?

TCI told me it would be 200/300 rpm. My Barth doesn't have a tach yet. Do you know where I can get a tach & where to mount it?
