Hello All,

Forward air conditioner stopped working when the generator is running. Rear air continued to operate. Forward air operates on shore power. Found the circuit breaker for the forward air unit. Is powered by one leg in the panel that is not receiving current from the Transfer Switch. The switch I have is made by Light Power Systems, model # LPT50BRD. There are two contactors present in the switch housing and I am getting 120V from the generator on one end of one contactor but nothing on the output end which is plumbed to my breaker panel. Has anyone had this situation before, and if so could a replacement contactor be purchased or was the complete transfer switch box replaced?

Had a similar problem once. After much looking and wire tracing the problem was very simple in my case. Trace the cable from the generator to a electrical box where the wire is spliced to the wire going to the transfer switch. The cable from the generator is usually less than 6 feet long so the box is not very far from the generator. In my case one wire nut had come loose and was not making contact. Hope yours is as simple.

Hello Nick,

After some more troubleshooting determined that one of the contactors/relay in the transfer switch is not functioning properly. Opted to replace the complete transfer switch assembly, and will keep the old switch for spares. I contacted the manufacturer of the switch directly and was given a discount off what I would have had to spend going through a vendor. Name of the company is ESCO,(574-264-4156). The tech help was very good and informative.

Welcome to the Forums!

You've found the house batteries, and usually they're the ones to start the generator. Trace the red wire from the starter to find the chassis battery. Under one of the steps is a good place to start.
